Ukranian Easter Egg marked with Grandpa's design

Last Friday night a friend of mine taught me how to make Ukranian easter eggs. Here is my first attempt. It took more than three hours--but what an interesting process. I think I may be hooked on a new hobby!

Do you recognize the design of the green line? Grandpa Sorensen taught me how to make that little doodle when I was 12, and I still remember how to do it. Did anyone of you ever learn this doodle, too? Do you remember if he ever said where he learned it from?

Yeah, those Ukranian Easter eggs can take a really long time to do. Dipping and waxing and dipping and waxing. Whew! Hadn't thought about that dot-design of Grandpa's for a really long time.

Kate, you have the most complete knowledge of his tricks. I remember you performing at one of his big birthdays. You got those all written down somewhere? How about an Easter egg with a picture of the guy with the cane, top hat and tails?

Or how about an embroidered Easter egg -- using techniques of yarn-ball manufacture on a wooden or plastic egg?

Hey, I'm just full of great ideas on ways for you to spend your free time!

Actually, David, I know there are a lot of the tricks that I don't remember. Maybe the cousins could all submit a post or two of the ones they remember. I'll try to draw the picture of the man with the cane and post it soon. I remember there was a little explanation with each phase of the drawing, but perhaps someone can help me fill in the descriptions. For example, at one stage the picture looks like a bug.

Anyhow, If anyone can remember how to tie a hankie into a mouse, or the disappearing knot in the string, those would be great things to illustrate and describe here.

I'll try to post what I remember, but I'm sure other cousins have contributions, too. Maybe we can jarr a few memories...
